OK so who has had Covid?

#1

Post by 490808 »

Not me and I don't actually know of anyone that I would speak to on a regular basis that has had Covid.

I know of friends of friends and relatives of friends who have had it (one who has it now had already had it before about this time last year).

I hardly think Covid is imaginary but I just don't seem to mix with people who have been unlucky enough to catch it.

So who has had it,how bad was it, did you suffer from long covid, were you vaccinated have you been vaccinated since?

Worst of all has anyone had it twice?

I can recall only one person I know who had Covid ..... and even then I was not aware of it and we have not discussed it so I do not know how serious it was, but must have been a light dose otherwise I would have known about serious illness or hospitalisation.

Many many people get infected .... infection 'cases' are reported daily.
The vast majority handle the infection without a care and never develop Covid.

Those who are immuno-compromised, and/or with underlying health problems, are most at risk of developing Covid, so if you hang about with healthy people it is unlikely you will know anyone who got Covid.

For anyone looking for straight data I find https://covid19ireland-geohive.hub.arcgis.com/ seems to provide it in a fairly understandable way.

The two friends of friends cases I currently know of are mild although the person who had Covid a second time had it far worse last time around and while I'd consider them perfectly healthy they were close to calling for an ambulance at one stage.

Nobody in my close circle got it (that I know of) but some of them are not in great health. A family member in UAE caught it and boy were they locked down (wearing trackers, police checkups, etc)

My wider circle I do know people who caught it alright

Very wide family circles on both sides - prolific breeders all - one teenager registered positive recently on a test, no symptoms, and mother in law got it recently after booster. Scratchy throat. That's all. We are either very careful or descendants of tough muck savages.
I have heard of a fair number of more distant people in the hills catching it, but they are wild out there and it did nothing to them. A few elderly locals in care homes died from Covid, unfortunately. I have heard through friends of friends of people about deaths of other people, not so old. One man died early on in the place my brother works.

Me and the "kids" were sick as pigs during Christmas - New Year 2019. We were abroad and I was doing the whole swapping from being feverishly hot to freezing cold thing while trekking small marathons, sight seeing every single damn thing and eating out in Gozitian bars while being basted in my own snot. Those were the halcyon days. Thankfully no sickness since. But it seems likely one may catch it eventually.

My mother asked this same question about a year ago, maybe longer. At the time, I only knew of one person (the estranged husband of my assistant at work, and he got it baaaaad in the first wave but recovered ... to about 80% after 18 months). Since then, DtrNo.2 in generally good health got a moderate dose (loss of taste/smell) when she was prohibited by her boss from taking time off work for her second vaccine; one of my young dancing buddies, very health conscious vegetarian, slightly older than DtrNo.2 got a similar dose; one of my musician friends (middle age) got it quite bad in the first wave too, but made a complete recovery over about six months. A work colleague escaped with a series of negative tests when everyone else in his family got it, but they'd be in the "friends of friends" category. Those'd be cases from France, Germany and the UK; I don't think I know of, or am related to, anyone in Ireland whose caught it.

No immediate family or friends who had covid, only work colleagues. Kind of odd

That said, my neck has been sore the last few days, maybe I'm now Omnicroned

The first person I know of was one of my best friends and his daughter in Jan 2021 - mild symptoms then after 3 days or so they both had a half day feeling rotten then it was over.
Then my other best friend and his wife and two adult kids - 18-21, were tested positive in July 2021 about 8 weeks after they all got vaccinated (through his and hers jobs)
Not one of them had any symptoms.
That's it as far as family, friends. No one in my family, young or old, pre-conditions or healthy has had it or had any symptoms of it.

No immediate family or friends but a couple of old neighbours locally sadly passed away from it.

Yeah I had it in jan this year. Didn't realise it until I tested positive. In the first wave I knew of a few people who caught it. These were friends of friends and through clients of mine sorta thing. Including a couple who ended up in hospital with it. Most weren't elderly either. Guys in their 40's and 50's, inculding one poor bugger who died from it after weeks on a ventilator. He had cleared the pox, but his body was wrecked and gave up.

The second wave last christmas was the period where I knew of the most people dying of it, though all were over 80.

This time around I don't personally know anyone who doesn't know someone with it or have it themselves. Nobody very sick with it though. Mild head cold seems to be the general gist and that includes the only true blue anti vaxxer I know.

Up until about a month ago I didn't know anybody personally who'd had covid. A couple of cases in different classes in my kids school but that was it.

Now I know loads, but most are in the UK. A good chunk of my friends got it over there in mid November. In early December I was in the UK, had dinner and a rake of pints one on one with an old friend, who called me two days later to say he had just tested positive.

I heard this morning my cousin's son in London has just tested positive, upsetting Christmas travel plans. My sister who lives in Scotland is going for PCR's with her family of five, before hoping to travel here on Thursday.

Five confirmed cases in my daughter's primary school over the weekend, including one in her class. She and my wife booked in for a PCR at midday.

All of the above (adults) fully vaxxed. I actually don't know anybody who is not vaccinated (apart from myself!).

Just my personal experience, but definitely seems to be a lot more prevalent lately.

Well I just came back from a run to the shops, bumped into my neighbour over the wall and they've all had it last week. Turns out the neighbour on the other side had it too. Got a text from a mate of mine who has it, as do his wife and kids. All report feeling a bit unwell for a few days, again like a headcold. Nobody with any serious effects. That said I'll get it, or have it and will be pushing up daisies by new years. Remember me fondly. :D

Maybe because its a fairly new virus still, maybe because of the anecdotal horror stories, but theres a kind of superstition that I find in myself ( at least) that one has to not be in any way casual when speaking of getting it or else the gods of Covid are going to smite you, defy your age demographic and health profile and give ya the clobbering of your life.
Fun times 🙂

I know a few people who have got it. Varies from "a bit tired one afternoon, handy two weeks off gardening" to "a fierce cough like a bad flu".

Remembered today that my nearest neighbour caught it during the first wave and had it quite bad (but didn't need to be hospitalised); and a colleague-friend in the UK who'd been feeling very rough for months was recently diagnosed with long covid even though she didn't know that she'd had the "short" version (she'd attributed her initial ill-health to work-related unmanageable stress).

Wife just heard a close friend's daughter tested positive today, in same school as our daughter, seems pretty common in our neck of the woods at the minute!

On long covid and children, since long covid generally has been mentioned and the children aspect came to my attention today.

Report just published in past days by infectious disease specialist at St Georges Hospital UK.

Thread says overall long term symptoms similar in covid + and covid - . Advises more research into proper care for the small number with persistent symptoms.

Backs up earlier analysis from Sept by Melbourne paediatrician.

Re long covid a good few are researching ways to possibly treat. Dr Bruce Patterson at InCellDx (bit of an unfortunate name) has been looking into it for some time. It might help some. You can access his twitter account via this tweet as I cannot seem to share profile.

I’ve had it. No hospital or anything but around a month later I still have very little energy and my chest whistles when I breathe.

Is it settled science that long covid is actually a thing?

Given the timescales involved it is pretty incredible what appears to pass for settled science when it comes to covid and particularly the vaccines.

I had it for a while last year. It wasn't that different from a cold or flu.

It went away after a few weeks.

Take an antigen test, if that fails get a PCR
