Ireland's suicide epidemic

#1

Post by mariannaspring »

Having lived in three countries, I don't think I heard about suicide as much as I have in Ireland. A lot of foreigners and Irish people who emigrate abroad say the same thing.

Is there a suicide epidemic? I know suicide rates have fallen since the 2000s (though a lot are inaccurately classified by coroners) so is it perhaps a case of the degree of separation? Ireland has a low population compared to other countries and people are likely to know strangers so perhaps it just feels common.

The mental health of people due to housing, medical issues, cost of living, feeling safe in one’s community is on decline. But sure spend €5 million bring a few cats and dogs from Ukraine instead of funding core issues.
