“This store utilises the very latest in retail technology.”

Exterminate! Exterminate!

My joking apart I can't imagine using such a store without meticulously checking my bill afterwards which would make the whole opperation fairly pointless. OK maybe after I'd proved it worked I'd stop all the checking but really don't like the idea.

I suspect Ireland will once again be too small a market for many if any stores here to become checkout free. Interesting to know if regs would allow selling of alcohol without an actual checkout person present here?

My cynicism makes me wonder if the whole thing isn't just a publicity stunt. Compare how much a TV ad campaign costs with the cost of one checkout free store with all the free advertising it will get.

First they came for our check-out girls, and we said nothing; then they came for our cash and cheques, and we said nothing. Now they're coming for the check-outs themsevles - we're heading back to being a hunter-gatherer society!
