Dutch city Haarlem becomes the first in the world to ban the advertising of meat because of ‘polluting nitrogen emissions’.

I flew from London to Dublin in 1959 - taken the ferry ever since and not this century at all.

Geez Air Lingus! I'm not an IT person but even I know for critical IT, you have backup plans (servers, switches etc) ready to take over in case something goes wrong. All the critical control systems at work are that way.

In fairness, the Chinese government appointed judge stated that the books were "a brainwashing exercise" and who can dispute their expertise in this field - they have been at it since 1949.

Must admit, I'm a big fan of the aul' Sail/Rail. It's a very civilised way to travel in my experience, with none of the panic/sweat/general chaos associated with airports/airlines.
Re: Re: WTF moment of the day
Aer Lingus IT are notoriously cheap. Hopefully this disaster will sufficiently motivate the senior management to adequately fund the department in future. A few of the banks have has similar experiences which made them realise that PCs strung together with gaffer tape and coat hangers just won't cut it.

Won't hold my breath Cyclo. IAG seem to be apportioning blame to the UK communication company they were emplying and making song and dance about it
Re: Re: WTF moment of the day
My WTF moment of the day is just the complete state of our country.
Its everything - incompetence everywhere.
The complete lack of any joined up thinking, planning or any semblance of project management.
I think what set me off is Eamon Ryan announcing the The North Seas Energy Cooperation group and just having to crowbar in his sloganeering.
""No one has ever weaponized access to the sun or the wind. We need to move off fossil fuels as fast as possible, for our security, for our society, and for our economy"
This from a man who did nothing during the Corrib Gas controversy.
These backwards goobers never worked in industry and they are in charge of these massive projects.
I then looked up the work plan for this project - f'n lol, castles-in-the-air stuff.
How is this going to work? - Badly.
But shure Skillnet have a training course for wind energy so thats that sorted.

Yerra don't listen to that daft Ryan. He's no idea of the world works and just stalls EVERYTHING that doesn't involve cycling and salad window boxes.....
Re: Re: WTF moment of the day
When will these idealists wise up to the need for 4th Gen nuclear power that consumes most of its own waste? All this wind energy comes with a huge carbon cost. The bloody turbines and their construction causes a carbon footprint that each unit barely negates because it doesn't last long enough. They damn things can't be recycled and have to be buried in a big hole

You're of course 100% spot on.

It's the same thing with the push for the farmers to reduce the beef heard to reduce emissions. We have one of the lowest polluting beef sector in the world. If we cut down cow numbers, the market will be replaced by south American farmers and their cutting of the rainforest to make more farms.....
Madness.
Madness.

Leo Varadker on the evening RTE news bulletin yesterday in an interview said "There was no need to bail out all the banks in 2008"
Well now you know.

Just another transfer of wealthy to wealthy institutions and shareholders, and as a society we accept it and carry on regardless.

I thought this was a joke but apparently it's true if you read the article. The authors contacted the school and all.

This Canadian teacher of Manufacturing Technology was a man last year and now identifies as Kayla.
As is said, Build it and they will come.
