My college professor said that had Ireland still allowed citizenship b y birth, the country would have crashed harder in 2008.
I don't know much about politics or economics but I have heard that jus soli citizenship causes a burden on taxpayers if people with a low standard of education move to a country and have children who will almost certainly be unemployed and rely on the state.
The only thing is, that the United States and Canada still have it and their economies are much more powerful than the EU countries.
