Would this country be better off smoking weed?

Alcohol is a major part of Irish culture and apart from the good times, it drives the economy to an extent. But no one can deny the negative effects when it's taken in excess. The majority of physical/sexual assaults, domestic violence cases and robberies are carried out by those under the influence of it. Many who turn up to A&E's are there as a result of alcohol-related incidents. There's also the long term effects on a persons health which puts a burden on the HSE with increased cancer rates, liver disease, etc..
If we legalized and not just decriminalized cannabis, what positive changes would we see? I know that the harm in cannabis is not so much addiction as it is the potential for developing psychotic disoders but there seems to be a genetic component. The increase in taxes could be put to something better and even increased tourism.
