First of all, this isn't a criticism directed towards drug users. I think adults should be allowed to do what they want with their body. That being said, I do wonder why our cocaine and ecstasy use is one of the highest in the world.

Complex reasons. (Random list following, not all reasons included).
A culture of getting wasted being both acceptable and cheered on.
Immaturity. Fecklessness.
Tribal generational woundedness.
Tending by nature towards metaphysical interpretation of life, a hidden current of esoteric, poetic, boundary testing. Inclined towards fascination re thanatos above eros.
Stupidity. Incontinence.
Creativity.
