GAAGO
GAAGO
I know (suspect),sport may not be most popular among GUBUrs....but what is your view on the GAAGO issue?
Its a good app,and thankfully has never crashed when I steaming (personally would only pay for hurling)...
But I think it's steep enough in price per match, and can see how it could lockout older/poorer households in particular and our national games should be free to all (would love to see the GAA give a free correct hurl to all primary school kids).....the silence and willingness to explain it away,of those who happily criticised sky showing matches is a bit galling

Re: GAAGO
I noticed that so far most of the bigger games have been on GAAGO. Now call me cynical but I think that's an attempt to force people in to paying for matches. When people are already paying a license fee. Lets not forget that RTE own 50% of GAAGO. Steaming has its place but not to the extent that most of the important matches are behind a paywall. They might have well have just given all the rights to Sky

Re: GAAGO
Saw an interesting tweet earlier. When sky didn't renew the deal Rte and the Gaa connived a deal to make the most they could on some games. Virgin media were never offered access.
Re: GAAGO
If I remember correctly the Sky deal fell through because Sky wanted to show more games but the GAA said no. Yet these are now the same games on GAAGO.PogMoThoin22 wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 7:27 pm Saw an interesting tweet earlier. I taught it was sky weren't getting the viewing figures ..I remember some matches had a viewership of 1,000 and something like only 50K for one all IrelandHappy Days wrote: ↑Tue May 09, 2023 7:36 pm If I remember correctly the Sky deal fell through because Sky wanted to show more games but the GAA said no. That being said,I can't imagine cavan v laois in football will be a money-spinner for GAAGO either!

Re: GAAGO
You're not wrong. Sky's viewing figures were very poor. But it gave then content. As they now seem to have a jumper load of channels, something to show on them. But the more games would have meant that Irish subscribers would be less likely to cancel their conscription during the Summer months

Re: GAAGO
I was reading that statement again and remembered something. Shortly after the Sky deal came to an end I was listening to Off The Ball when one of the presenters mentioned that a contact in Virgin Media had told them that they weren't interested in acquiring the rights. I'm pretty sure it was reported that no other TV Network was interested. If that was inaccurate you would have thought that Virgin would have corrected the record then, instead of waiting until now.
I suspect both sides are bending the truth a bit. Will be interesting to see how this plays out
