Rory Gallagher's resignation from his manager role of Derry GAA comes as no big surprise following the recent revelations about their relationship, posted by his wife Nicola on her Facebook page. She painted a picture of violent, coercive control by Gallagher, going back since before they were even married.
The mother of three young children states that she's posting this publicly, as she doesn't want to see other young girls go through similar ordeals and that silence is not the answer.
I wish someone had given my mum similar advice 60 years ago, though its doubtful she would've listened anyway. It use to be considered in some way nearly acceptable for couples to have violence within their relationship.
I've always said that on the first sign of anything untoward like that happening within my marriage, I'd be gone like a shot.
Now I'm not sure if the Gallagher children ever witnessed any of this abuse first hand, but they'd have to have been somewhat aware if the allegations are true. Being a child and witnessing your father beat your mother senseless is the absolute stuff of nightmares.

Intimate partner violence.
Re: Intimate partner violence.
It's a dreadful story. The poor woman. I do believe her because it would be crazy to make such allegations publicly if untrue.
