That might be George Alagiah you're thinking of, he has terminal cancer. There's no suggestion that he is "the one".

Ah it is - thank you!!!

Interesting development here - looks like utter bollocks between the parent and a scummy tabloid and the person themselves deny anything.

Sky reporter saying “he should come out and nothing happened”. Given that on the basis of a newspaper headline he was suspended and the fcking Government got involved - would you speak up ???

A lawyer for the person involved with the BBC personality has published a letter

https://www.ilfordrecorder.co.uk/news/n ... um=twitter
The lawyer's letter said: "For the avoidance of doubt, nothing inappropriate or unlawful has taken place between our client and the BBC personality and the allegations reported in the Sun newspaper are rubbish."

Met police meet with BBC over allegations against an unnamed presenter
This comes after the Met Police met with the BBC over allegations that a presenter working with the broadcaster paid a teenager for sexual images.

However, the police force added that no investigation was taking place "at this time".

The Met in London released a statement, announcing the virtual meeting, telling the public: “Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command met with representatives from the BBC on the morning of Monday, 10 July. The meeting took place virtually.

“They are assessing the information discussed at the meeting and further enquiries are taking place to establish whether there is evidence of a criminal offence being committed.

The Met Police added: “There is no investigation at this time.”

If it is bollocks, it's a watershed moment for the media/social media. Like the Irish Times fake fake tanning story - on steroids!

There's going to be a feeding frenzy in the UK legal profession over this.

The plot thickens.

I think it is more plausible said presenter was sending sexy pics to the youngster.
Subsequent payments were blackmail to keep sexy pics private.
Mum wondered where kid got all the money, and rather than admitting to blackmail, kid says "I got paid for dick pics."
Mum senses a financial opportunity, and sells story to Sun.

Embarrassing for the presenter concerned for sure, and a bit of a waste of 35k. But I doubt he's going to prison.

I actually don't know what is going on. It's weird. And now there's rats in the RTE canteen. I'm beginning to think all this is karma for the media being assholes during covid. So I don't care.

The parents of the youngster questioned who had paid to provide their child with an expensive lawyer.

The parents of a teenager involved in a BBC presenter scandal claim they had spoken out to protect their child.

The mother and step-father stand by their allegation that the BBC star paid their child thousands - in return for sex pictures.

In a letter to the BBC, the youngster's lawyer disputes the story which has been described as "rubbish".

“It is sad but we stand by our account and we hope they get the help they need," the mother told The Sun.

Huw Edwards has been named by his wife and is receiving in patient care. I got the impression from the article (The Times) that he suffers with ill mental health rather than this whole thing being the cause.

Power is a strange thing and sometimes the person we assume has the most of it actually doesn't at all.
That's not an excuse for being a sleaze but when it comes to adults we tend to look to the person who is older by many years as being awful and coercive etc.
Rarely do we see that there is another person who can have as much or even more power than the elder.

I'm really not saying that Huw Edwards is a victim or that the young men weren't hurt by him because I don't know the ins and outs. There is just something about this particular scandal that makes me wonder is all.

It's an awful way to end a very public career. The sex drive really does push some people to do odd things. I dunno, if you're gay or want an affair, or a string of intrigues, tell your spouse first out of respect and then get on with it. Seems like basic good manners.

I'd imagine his wife is very worried about his wellbeing too. As much as she has been disrespected, she probably loves him still.

When I first heard the story I thought it was a man who took advantage of a young drug user, 17 yrs, and by asking harassing even for photos in exchange for payment. A young lad who would have jumped at the chance to make 35k due to their addiction. Hugely exploitative.

I don't think it's quite like that now. The boy did develop a drug habit but was that because of interaction with Huw? Did he feel like he had no agency to refuse to give photos of himself? Is it immoral to offer a 17yr old lots of money for sexual pictures of them? Most certainly and illegal and queasy making. 17 is no age. Did Huw know the boy was so young? The did the boy feel pressured? If yes did then I do believe he needs to be accountable in some way. If he didn't then he's an eejit is all.

The other allegations seem really murky. It seems he was contact with young men on Only Fans and when one of them threatened to 'out' him he lost it and responded angrily. Not illegal but really really ill judged. If you choose to open an Only Fans account then you are exposing yourself to what's out there. You can decide not to have any interaction with whomever or you can be less particular.

Anyways those latest allegations don't seem like a big deal to me. Older man chats with a younger man who has an OF account. So what. Older man chats online with a younger woman who has same. So what.

And vice versa.

It's unlikely the man was 17 at the time the picture sharing started. It is illegal to share pic of under 18s unless in a relationship and the police have said there's no evidence of a crime having been committed.
