"National Treasure"

#1

Post by Norman Breaks »

You hear the Yanks harping on about "so & so is a national treasure". We, in Ireland, are a crowd of begrudgers, to be sure, but is there anyone, past or present, who has managed to escape our collective ire and landed themselves firmly in the 'national treasure' genre?

Some that come to mind for me might be-
Gay Byrne
Jack Charlton
Graham Norton

Perhaps posthumously - Sinead O Conner

I've never bought into the nonsense of 'National Treasure.' They are simply people with a job/profession in the public eye who do it well

McVerry is a grifter of the highest order IMO.

To the post - special mention for Sonia O’Sullivan and for older viewers, dear Terry Wogan and Val Doonican.

I don't really think about others in that way. There are some Irish people that I like and would vote for if there was a "name your favourite Irish person" competition. A sort of Lovely Girls but for personality :D

John Creedon.
Michael Harding.
I seem to have reached a blank. I thought there were a few more.
Daniel Day Lewis. Is he Irish? I quite like him.
Constance Markievicz was an amazing woman.
Nell McCafferty. I'd say she's great fun.
Richard Ozman but he is British.

Actually I can think of far more British people that I admire compared with Irish ones

My personal hero - what a fabulous woman!!!!

DDL is ours - he's been here a while, they can't have him back!!! Plus his accent in My Left Foot was better than my uncle's and he's living in Dublin near 40 years!!!
