Boards Megathread - Read OP before posting.

#1

Post by Guburnor »

MOD NOTE:

I gave a lot a of leeway on the other boards threads hoping that peoples desire to get personal and nasty about specific boardsies would naturally peter out over time. But apparently not. I've locked the other threads so we can start afresh, with zero tolerance. Please use this thread for any discussion you wish to have on here re boards.ie.

The only reason I am creating this thread, despite the fact I think the incessant obsession with whinging about boards is entirely unhelpful, is that I feel even more strongly that there should be no topics that are forbidden to discuss on gubu.

That said, the posting styles in which some posters are engaging are very much forbidden. The other threads show that these posters need a bit more guidance than simply "Don't be a dick", so I'll reluctantly spell it out:

Do not engage in spiteful/petty/vindictive etc attacks on specific boards posters.

That includes trying to be a smart alec by specifically referring to individual posters using euphemisms of their usernames.

If you think this is heavy handed censorship, and you're unable to understand how the above posting style constitutes being a dick, then it is no wonder you were banned from boards and you're not welcome here either.

Ok, I'll go first....

I try not to get embroiled in the so-called "discussion" threads. We all know those who go out of their way to cause mayhem, instead of allowing that different points of view can and must exist on any topic under the sun.

On a positive note, I find the threads like DIY or Motors etc are great sources of information. And, generally speaking, posters are happy to share knowledge in a positive way. Only twice in I don't know how long, did I receive less than helpful advice on these fora. So, I still visit Boards and ask questions from time to time, and where I can, respond to questions - hopefully helpfully. Well, no one has burned their house down yet.

Seems fair enough except for that last part which comes across as a tad unnecessary and kind of petty.

My hope is that we can use this thread to record all the stuff where they break their own rules like how that cmod gets away with calling people gammons. How they say one thing one minute and another the next. To show up how they are either owned or run by ideologues hellbent on rewriting society rather than providing a forum in which people can express frank views. Their vision for an equitable, intersectional future is riddled in contradiction and anyone pointing this out is dismissed as a troll. It’s only fair that there is at least one place where this can be discussed.

But I agree 100%, many of the comments crossed the line into nasty and spiteful even if they weren’t insults. Let’s do better.

I think it would be better for folk to let it go

Personally I wouldnt look it even anymore.....but that's way I'd be,when I'm done I'm done as regards anything in life.....

I don't see point in looking at it for reasons to be annoyed,it's packed hypocrites,PC clowns who hate free speech and try-hards who are abusive of report function, that's the limit of their life.....let em at it IMO,they won't change now

If lads are to give links/discussion on it,would be better suited to search out good content/quick witted posting....though I suspect thread would soon die a death

Yeah, letting it go would be my preference too. I still check in there daily just to read any threads that I follow but I will never, ever post there again. Over 30,000 posts under several usernames but I don't miss the over zealous, know-it-all mods - especially in the Commuting Forum. I was in there last night for an unrelated matter and fell over a thread that I had started in 2013 about the need to re-examine the Drumm Battery train from the 1930s - but was slapped down by the mod and insulted by the several moronic posters but the battery electric trains are coming back now. Shake off the dust and move on. :D

Sorry I seem to have started the latest barrage of posts on the other thread by just asking if XXXX was some lad that lived in YYYYY...

What about posters that have left the site ? same rules ? cos there was one lad that was actually very funny, his stories were way over the top but was hilarious reading all the same, I think it could be hard to moderate this as the line between praise, humour and insults could get very grey.

What really was the final nail in the coffin there for me was not even allowing certain topics to be discussed - mention the *obvious* mental decline of Biden and you are banned, mention the objective fact that the vaccines don't stop transmission and are at best a (bad) therapeutic and - banned.

But I agree, it can be a great place when the topic is non controversial, just a shame it's so far left in it's modding.

Same rules, don't be a dick. If you can't think of something good to say about a specific poster, say nothing at all about that specific poster.

If you think it is difficult to judge the fine line between praise, humour and insults, err on the side of caution.

I'll never forget being banned for a week for "racist guff" for pointing out the entirely true story of how when Premier League teams and others change their badges to a rainbow for Pride, out come the fans from Africa and the Middle East with vile homophobia.

I countered it in the mod chat that "around 70 countries, mostly in Africa and the Middle East have laws banning being gay and all those that punish gay people with death are in Africa and the Middle East".

The reply was comical "you made that up and if you can't use the proper term LGBTQIA+ then don't post after your holiday".

I didn't - and it's gay. I am a staunch gay ally, and I drink in gay bars - the cross dressing nutters can piggy back onto the cause all they like but don't make me change the name!! Gay Pride used to be fun !!!

1:mention the *obvious* mental decline of Biden.
Obvious to whom?
2:mention the objective fact that the vaccines don't stop transmission
Whats the context?
3: and are at best a (bad) therapeutic.
What's your understanding of the medical difference between a therapeutic and a vaccine?

My late father suffered from dementia and I can recognise some of the same symptoms in Biden when he speaks - I suspect many more instances have been hidden.

Maybe you would know the answer to those questions if boards didn’t ban so many people that were talking about them.

Take Biden’s cognitive ability for example, his staff kept him hid away during the campaign trail under the convenient excuse of a covid pandemic.

He’s mixed up members of his own family, mistook his sister for his wife, said he was running for the senate instead of the presidency and referred to trump as “George”.

These ‘gaffes’ have only been accelerating and were not present in his earlier life where much footage of him exists.
He called Kamala, president Harris, shakes hands with the air when there was no one around, was unable to find his way off a stage, got lost on the lawn of the White House and fell asleep in a meeting with Israel’s prime minister.

That just scratches the surface. But as bishop Brennan said anyone mentioning any of this was banned from the us threads there. Trolls the lot of them.

Just look how they carefully craft this.

Beasty says the posters don’t produce evidence and then mike(Tokyo) bans people that do produce evidence.

Just to clarify one point - there was a thread earlier today started by a re-reg troll that I deleted

The issue of Biden's mental state was raised as some kind of "ammunition" in the election threads and it was not tolerated in those threads, particularly as there has been no evidence produced to support any assertions that his cognitive abilities were in decline

https://www.boards.ie/discussion/205813 ... e-in-potus

When someone produces evidence of such (me) I got banned for a week so I closed my account. https://www.boards.ie/discussion/commen ... _114351095

You may feel that your talk show video clip constitutes evidence, but most people wouldn't.”

There was a time when you could say anything about covid, I remember beasty himself was of the opinion that the virus wasn’t going to take over quite like it did and that we were all getting hysterical. He even vetoed the very idea of a covid forum. We were allowed to talk about masks, where the virus came from etc.. etc.. all with impunity which led to interesting and fruitful discussions.

Then it took over we had the first lockdown and suddenly so many things became off limit. You weren’t allowed to compared it to the flu. You weren’t allowed to suggest that the death rate was somewhere around .03% and not 3%. You weren’t allowed to discuss the Great Barrington declaration, except to dismiss it. You weren’t allowed to question the lockdowns or ‘local health authority’. The amount of reasonable people I saw banned during this time is insane. The whole world went hysterical like the Salem witch trials.

My grandfather had Alzheimer’s for years. The slower gait speed is a clear sign.

Of course Biden could have taken the simple cognition test that Trump also took but he instead called the reporter a junkie and suggested that people shouldn’t take tests for their jobs, yet people have to take drugs tests all the time for all sorts of jobs. A cognition test for the leader of the free world is not beyond the realm of possibility. Would have cleared everything up.

What happened? Has he been shown to be a Walter Mitty or something?

There are plenty of Walters on boards and some of them have been royally caught out but I'm not aware of that happening in this case.

it's about Kim Jong-un telling us how rich and generous he is - either him or it's the commander in chief of Ireland's most popular discussion site - and how they claim to have housed ~11 Ukrainian refugees in a second house they claim to own - that, presumably, just happened to be lying idle for some reason or other. was mentioned way way back (and maybe once or twice since then  ) on some Ukrainian thread o'er there

that'd be my guess anyway

remember seeing the post/s, but can't find any atm

It’s a mansion not a cabin of which can accommodate 15 at least.
