Newstalk - have your say!
What do you like most about Newstalk?
a) Is it the annoying, opinionated presenters?
b) The daily murdering of the English language - Ciara 'noos' Kelly and Shane Coleman take a bow.
c) Is it the breathless presentation and annoying jingles especially IMRO radio station of the year - self praise is no praise.
d) The total overkill on sport in general (especially on the breakfast show where CK openly admits she knows nothing and Shane Coleman who thinks he does and has an opinion on everything).
e) The concentration on trivial/tabloid items and the woke agenda?
f) The awful competitions that gobshite listeners pay up to €2.50 a pop to enter?
g) The advertorial porn concentrating on medical issues - PK stand up.
h) Or is it the fact the there's so much advertising that the programmes interrupt the Ads rather than the other way round?
Lucky I'm in a good mood today.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
Ach, I'm sorry but I no longer do NT.
I used to make a point of listening to Moncrieff.
Then Caroline Clarke left and the slot lost its easy going fluidity.
I gave them a few weeks after, then gave up.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
I don't listen to Newstalk either now... Clara Kelly does my head in. When it first started I listened to it alot. But can't stand it now.
Re: Newstalk - have your say!
I listen to it everyday, I think out of laziness to change the dial. I really should because I spend quite a lot of time getting angry with it. Ciara Kelly does my nut in. Sean Moncrieff can be entertaining and infuriating in alternate sentences.
One things that gets me is the amount of time the regular presenters are off. There's rarely a day goes by when you get a full complement of Newstalk presenters at work, and wow, the stand ins are woeful.
Though I still have a certain amount of respect for how they handled Dil Wickremasinghe's tantrums.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
I used to listen to NT morning, noon and night. But a few years ago I stopped listening. I got fed up listening to it. Less newstalk and more presenter's opinions. I agree with the OP about Moncrieff, it's gone downhill.

I won't listen to it
it's tabloid nonsense, and I feel trying to be a kind of Irish fox-news radio

Become woke and virtue signally. Still worth a listen now and then to pat Kenny and supposed alternative view Moncreiff

Nothing makes me retch more than Ciara "I'm a doctor ya know" Kelly so I listen to Ian Dempsey for my morning commute, he's just about bearable, his music taste is cheesy but he's been around forever! I turn back for Pat Kenny because Dermot and Dave are shit!

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
Tried to listen again this morning but 30 minutes and radio off - so much more relaxing. Having any news programme on in the background is like any other addiction - sugar, drugs, alcohol, porn etc. - damn hard to break. As an aside, and relating to this mornings' Noostalk breakfast show, am I the only one who wouldn't care less if the Olympic Games and the Irish language both became extinct?

There is ZERO interest shown by all adults over 25 without children in tow going about their daily business.

Anton would be a good replacement for PK when he eventually retires. Much, much better than the usual Newstalk stand-ins.
Adrian Kennedy is soooo much better than Andrea Gilligan on Lunchtime Live. I think that's the name of the show - Andrea never says the name

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
Two Brits on Lunchtime Live today should have rung Liveline instead - clueless - and the male Jason described the former EU Commissioner Phil "Irish Water" Hogan as a most able politician - able for what? As for the shouty cow who kept savaging Adrian Kennedy for having the temerity to interrupt her rant. If Joe was there he could have asked "where were they from originally". Both should be frog marched down to the ferryport and deported for being thick. How did we ever have an Empire.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
The best thing about Newstalk is Ciara Kelly. She's amazing, and not just because she's a woman. She also said she'd welcome travelers moving into her street in Greystones because she's so woke, like myself. I know she meant it when she said it, I know because her supporters on boards.ie said it and therefore #IBelieveHer. Her modesty is only topped by her refusal to ever seek attention for herself. I wish though that she'd take maybe a month off to cure cancer - I know she could do it because she's so talented in everything she does. I'm her biggest fan.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
I used to enjoy NT in the morning on the way to work but the presenters are now terrible and the conversation is almost juvenile "what's your best memory of summer? " type of rubbish
But the adds on the breakfast show absolutely do my head in..from 7.55 to 8.10 alone there must be a solid 10 mins of ads
Pat Kenny is head shoulders above any presenter in Irish radio. Best in class

Lunchtime Live and Adrian Kennedy rehashing yesterday's Joe Duffy interview with some Yank who thought she had German ancestry but has now discovered she's of Irish extraction - staggeringly exciting.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
Regardless of all the stinking warts and similarity to rte Radio 1 I turned on Pat Kenny this morning and was pleasantly surprized to listen to the head of Dublin City Council, get it from Pat Kenny citing a recent visitor review. Nice and harsh, no mincing his words or pussy footing around: Dublin is filthy and littered at the moment!

On with Ciaran Cuddihy now: An American fool was on the Lavhline a couple of weeks ago. He was in the military so he says - Walter Mitty character if you ask me. Sooner he is arrested/deported or whatever.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
Who enters these amazing Newstalk competitions - today's prize is €13k and only costs you €2.50 a pop to play i.e just 5,200 people have to enter to generate the prize. Obviously this is a bit simplistic as the phone provider will also be getting their percentage but the bottom line is that the only real winner here is Bauer Media Audio (the owners of Newstalk) but are there really enough saps out there parting with their €2.50s?
Edit: It's even worse than I thought, as PK says you have to pay for your text too on whatever package you're on - you couldn't make it up.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
The very first time I heard Pat Kenny read out a Newstalk competition I felt I could almost hear the disdain in his voice. I do think so many competitions cheapens the shows themselves and the station as a whole, but I understand the commercial need behind some of them.

The near constant interruptions by promotions for cash "giveaways" have become a right pain.
And as for the questions... Pat Kenny having to ask how many colours are on the Irish flag. Is it 3, or is it 7?

Afghanistan in meltdown but Newstalk Breakfast can't keep away from the vital and titillating news about "Only Fans" continuing to allow porn. Pathetic attempt to attract listenership.

Re: Newstalk - have your say!
And today it's Anton Savage's turn on the Hard Shoulder - the lengthy, upbeat piece extolling the employment opportunities of Only Fans would have cost the company thousands. While the site sounds mildly 'titillating' is there any need to promote it on national radio especially when many young ears are likely to hear the segment?
