Time to batten down the hatches and secure the trampolines. Storm Barra approaching. Wonder will we get any snow.

Lovely day in Wexford but I'll be out clearing drains in my yard later to ward off possible flooding - happened twice last year! With all the colour coded warnings from Met Eireann the storm will probably miss Ireland completely.

First visit to Cork in yonks, driving through Charleville when the red alert started blaring on the radio. Tempted to turn round but sense of adventure overrided caution. Filling my boots tonight before the Lee fills the carpark tomorrow. Hopefully this is the usual Met Éireann shock and awe, 15 hours of extreme winds seems outlandish. If they get it wrong, another deserved hit to colour-coordinated hyperbole.

I'm with you on the Met Éireann hyperbole - they've cried wolf too often and some day soon it's going to come home to bite them.

I'm living in the red zone, I'm pretty sure that a few twigs might snap, nothing more as usual with these media induced sensational weather reports.

Just checked rte.ie and for once covid has been blown off the top news item story. I'm looking forward to the free firewood tomorrow considering briquettes are nearly 6 euros a bale, robbing bastards.

I'm in the red zone also. What's worse is that I'm at the end of a line so if there's any break along the 15km back I'm without power. Also, being at the end of the line means I'm usually the last to get fixed.

Sure in Storm Ophelia, I was without power for 4 days.

Saying a prairie to the sky fairie that we somehow survive this unprecedented event, with the exception of the hundreds of winter storms that casually battered these shores pre-conversion of miles to kilometres per hour (90km/hr, larger numbers are truly terrifying) and bright red primary colours. We resisted the devastating impact of Covid by sheer luck and an actual survivability rate of over 97%, we just might make it out the other side of a bit of wind.

Downloaded the windy.com app onto my phone this morning. A ton of detail compared to the met.ie app.

I'll tell you folks, it's carnage here in rebel territory. Just now I witnessed a cigarette carton getting knocked over, and look at those empty crisp packets bouncing along the pavement. Even an elderly lady had to adjust her hat. The end is surely nigh at this rate, hold on to your sides because they just might split.

Nice and calm here in NCD for the last hour. Not experiencing the carnage that Bertie is reporting from Cork. Stay safe Bertie.

The power went at 8 am and with it the internet. In the ensuing doom I had to go completely Medieval to keep myself amused and finally got round to sterilising the jars and prepping the big ugly marrows for making preserve.
All is well now as the power came back a few minutes ago and I can finally catch up on the apocalypse on Twitter.

In the calm eye of Barra here in the NE tonight. But looks as if the tail will dump a load of rain on us tomorrow!

I’m in a yellow area but 700ft up and not a bit of shelter for miles. It’s rough as feck.

Just coming out of powercut now that lasted since last night. No internet, no radio, just candles and peace. I see now how much I dig that knowing nothing about the world vibe - I could do with it every morning for the first few hours after waking. Maybe a New Years Resolution.
No damage of significance. Roof still good. Very windy and rainy non stop. We are up high here too, like Frank, and not much shelter on the hills, though I have lots of trees. My solar outdoor Christmas lights took a walloping.
