Burke family, Castlebar
Re: Burke family, Castlebar
We dodged a bullet with one religious nut job in Dana; we don't want to encourage another. It took long enough for the people to cop on to what was going on between the RCC and establishment politics; and we'd first have to figure out exactly what strain of fundamentalism Enoch represents.
Being offended doesn't automatically mean you are right.
Re: Burke family, Castlebar
Your presumption being that people are smart enough to vote in a sensible rational manner manner in things that affect their daily lives. I am 70 in a few weeks, and i aint seen any evidence of that yet,marhay70 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 29, 2025 9:08 pm We dodged a bullet with one religious nut job in Dana; we don't want to encourage another. Re: Burke family, Castlebar
The last time I saw 70 was on a bus to Dunboyne, but I agree with your sentiments. Some time ago the residents of my adopted home town finally lost patience with the County Council, whose neglect of small towns and villages is nothing short of criminal, and decided to take matters into their own hands. They set about sprucing up the area, and to cut a long story short, have done a fantastic job.
Then, lo and behold, the FG TD for the area, who doesn't even represent these parts, and is our TD purely because of boundary changes before the last election; waltzes into town for a series of photo ops in the now pristine environs, and the local worthies, instead of packing him off on a haycart back to where he came from, fell over themselves to be included in the charade. This is the fickleness of the Irish voting public.
Being offended doesn't automatically mean you are right.

He is not the first Mayo man that hadn't attacked anyone, stolen anything but yet found themselves in Mountjoy for contempt of court, i.e. standing up for his beliefs.kadman wrote: ↑Fri Mar 14, 2025 10:28 pm We cant jail rapists and pedophiles, and let them into the country without checking who the fek they are. We let men commit heinous crimes against women and children. We wont jail politicians for their shenanigans , but we put a man into a cell who has harmed no one, and his only crime is standing up for his beliefs. Countrys gone mad.
Remember how the Rossport 5 were jailed for another contempt of court?
They had dared put their community first and not roll over for this country's governments only concern, the interests of multinationals.
Re: Burke family, Castlebar
Christ on a bike- that is an awful insult to the Rossport 5!
The Burkes are a crowd of sick fucktards while the Rossport 5 were standing for something with substance!

He has in a way, he has proven that contempt of court laws need to be updated. They will no doubt become a criminal conviction in the future.

Gandhi and Rosa Parks were known as trouble makers in their time too. They weren’t hailed as hero’s. The governments said they were just causing trouble and many good people like yourself believed them.
Burke will be hailed as a hero along with these people in years to come. Of this I am certain. He went to mountjoy to stand up for his beliefs. The Irish government tried to bend him over backwards but they failed.
Re: Burke family, Castlebar
It's hilarious that people actually believe this. He's no hero and neither are any of his crazy extremist family. They're about as far removed from free speech advocates as it's possible to beknownunknown wrote: ↑Wed Sep 03, 2025 11:25 am Gandhi and Rosa Parks were known as trouble makers in their time too. ‘Enoch Burke, through his personal persecution, changed the culture that intimidated teachers for years, finally teachers were able to speak up and speak out about the crazy lgbt agenda imposed upon them. No longer were children encouraged to transition and believe that gender was a construct. Finally the children of Ireland were free from this insidious ideology. He was the hero no one asked for and no one respected.’
A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles- Christophe Reeves.

You are totally delusional.

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
The unfortunate outcome of this case is largely due to the school and the then principle, long departed. They allowed it to be blown out of all proportion. Of all schools, Wilsons should have been able to accommodate a good teacher like Burke, even though he has strong views on some matters.

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
Ah now.
You see the greatest trick that was played a few years back was telling people we should adopt the attitude that shure why would anyone object to someone asking to be called she or he when they were the opposite in terms of their sex.
We had the argument that it wasn't hurting anyone and if you said it was wrong that you were just being nasty.
Then hey ho it became a case of well they are a SHE so aren't they also a woman,
Then next thing you know some guy could just identify as a woman, no sex change surgery, nothing.
Then next thing you know there is demand that they compete in women's sports, that they can freely access women only areas.
Then slowly but surely kids are being officially taught this crapology.
The trans movement have been allowed to effectively take over the LGB movement.
You have long time, trail blazing lesbians like Matrina Navratilova pilloried by dress wearing blokes who for the most part still have their cocks and balls.
It is a sad indictment of our modern society, where science, biology, anatomy are rubbished so that some often mentally unstable people, particularly often men, can feel good about themselves.
I may not agree with the Burke's religious ideology, but I am impressed with their resilience in fighting for their beliefs against overwhelming odds and I can agree with their stance on the often ridiculousness of modern gender ideology.
Re: Burke family, Castlebar
Nobody gives flying feck about the gender stuff.
When I am at work I have to do what the boss wants me to do. If I don't follow his orders, I am out- simple as.
But this thing is not about what to do and what not to do at work. This thing is about contempt of court- nothing else. It is only hijacked by members of a certain political spectrum who turn it into a political football and twist the whole thing to suit their own agenda.

Re: Burke family, Castlebar
Not really, the contempt of court arises from a conviction that the individual concerned has been wronged. Whatever you think of the Burkes religious standing, you do have to give them credit for trying to live by it.
Re: Burke family, Castlebar
The Burkes have been around some time. And showed their true faces many times.
I saw Martina and one of her sons in Castlebar, proclaiming that the government "murders" people in the local hospital. They are full of insanities. There is nothing to admire in them. They are the village idiots who managed to get some attention- mostly in internet fora.
They deserve no credit- they deserve the full force of the law!

For what do they 'deserve the full force of the law'? Having different views to your good self?Quato wrote: ↑Mon Sep 08, 2025 10:07 am The Burkes have been around some time. And showed their true faces many times.

Think carefully before you answer that.

You know full well there’s only one opinion and we must all hold in.
Under his eye etc.
Re: Burke family, Castlebar
Whatever else they are, they are no idiots. I know a lecturer that had two of them as students, as described them as two of the most intelligent students they've ever seen.Quato wrote: ↑Mon Sep 08, 2025 10:07 am The Burkes have been around some time. And showed their true faces many times.

There is a strong tendency for those of a certain political leaning to see everyone they disagree with as idiots, even when the person they are labelling as such clearly isn't.

Could your boss force you to say a prayer to the great spaghetti god every day before work?Quato wrote: ↑Mon Sep 08, 2025 9:32 am Nobody gives flying feck about the gender stuff.

This teacher in Virginia was treated exactly the same a few years ago. He cited his Christian beliefs as the reason to not use pronouns being forced upon him. The school said he was creating a hostile environment and broke their discrimination practises so fired him. He then went onto to win a huge case against the school.

There’s a reason Enoch is still being paid by that school.

It makes me sick to hear people go “nope you’re wrong - Burke wasn’t jailed for anything about pronouns but got failing to observe a court order!!”knownunknown wrote: ↑Wed Sep 24, 2025 3:52 pm This teacher in Virginia was treated exactly the same a few years ago.
