Second hand but I don't see the issue with second hand.
I wont have an issue either if thats the only choice i have.
But I wanted to contact Dell to see if it was possible to buy a new PSU to go straight in.
I would prefer new instead of a 10+ year old repaired one. But its looking like choices are down to secondhand or repaired.

Or new me birthday is coming up, and its a biggie ha,ha,

1. What price might that deal at ?
2. Would all the other stuff that you would be buying bundled with it have any attraction to you ?
Been looking at that today as well, and its up for consideration too :)

No more a perfect fit than any other fixed cable ATX power supply. EDIT> It has all the connections you need. Assuming you only have one CPU and the other PCI-E cable (there are 3 of them with this PSU) will do for your graphics card.

Price is OK but considering its third hand (amazon warehouse so its been out once before) it could be cheaper.

One last and final question.

If I went with the Corsair PSU conversion. Is it possible with any of the connections, that I could connect them to the wrong socket within the PC.
Or are they all specific for one point only.
AS you have probably guessed, I hate having anything to do with computer wiring at all.
Classic car wiring is something I am completely at home with, anywhere.

Desktop PC's. Lets just say, I hate them

About the only ones you could get mixed up are the 8 Pin CPU plug and the 6+2 PCI-E plugs. They shouldn't go in the wrong connector but never say never. The 8pin EPS/ATX 12V connector of which there is only one goes to the motherboard. One of the 6+2pin PCI-E plugs goes to your graphics card.

Options....

Second hand Dell part
Pros, easy to fit - might take all of 90 seconds. Cons Second hand, expensive.

New part of Amazon
Pros, its new and shiney, can be returned if it won't fit. Cons will take some effort and thought to fit, motherboard may want removing to take some cables out.

Second hand part - donedeal averts etc
Pros, cheapest option. Cons will take some effort and thought to fit, can't be returned, motherboard may want removing to take some cables out.

Well I have had a look at some of the connections into the PSU, and its here where a complete novice in these matters, gets confused. You on the other hand, are well versed in these black arts.
Anyway this item, has no mention of 8 pin , so confusion sets in. And no specific plugs are marked for what they are. Confusion ramps up.
From my point of view there are a load of 6 pin sockets, 8 pin, and i am about to give up even before I start

So this diagram from https://www.overclock.net/threads/gpu-a ... s.1773088/

Image

shows you the two main connections that could possibly get mixed up.

The Sata cables will go in the 6 pin sockets on that PSU and the main Block for the motherboard in the 10 and 18 pin connections on the PSU.

They should be all keyed so you can put the wrong cable in the wrong connection.

If you want to double check before plugging in you can always check the output with a meter from the pinouts above.

Your mobo uses two 4 pin ATX-12V connectors which that PSU supplies they are the 4+4 CPU connections (an 8 pin lead that splits on two so you can use it as 4, 4+4 or 8).

The PCIe connectors for your graphics card can be 6 or 8 pin in this case the PSU has connections that are 6+2 so they can be used as either 6 pin or 8 pin.

I appreciate your patience.

Your third sentence says "They should all be keyed so you can put the wrong plug in the wrong connection. Thats thrown me altogether.

And the mention of 6 pin and 8 pin plugs, as a novice I dont know whether to put the plug into the top or bottom row of 6 or 8 pin sockets as they are in both rows.

I'm off to the scratcher now, my head is melted, as this is totally outside my realm of knowledge, and I'm way too old to be learning another discipline ;)

Thanks for your patience, its very much appreciated.

Sorry forgot the negative.

"They should all be keyed so you cannot put the wrong plug in the wrong connection"

But do check because sometimes with cheaper connectors you can force the wrong connections together.

The connections on the PSU are also keyed, so you definitely can't get it wrong at that end. afaik and I'm saying that because I don't have that actual PSU in front of me, the connections for the GPU (6+2) and CPU(4+4) are the same on the PSU itself because they supply the same 12V. However its the connections at the other end of the cable that you shouldn't be able to mixed up. So you plug in the CPU power cable into any of the 8 pin connections at the PSU end and the other end which often has CPU written on it will only fit into the motherboard CPU connections - this connection is obvious because at the mobo end it has two 4 pin connectors which can be fitted side by side to make 8 pins. Same with the PCIe cable for the graphics card at the PSU end it fits into any of the 8 pin sockets but is different at the other end that goes into the graphics card which made up up two connectors a 6 pin and a 2 pin which can be used as a 6 or 8 pin connector.
